Review of applications will begin on March 1 and continue until all ten positions are filled.

2. Eligibility

  • Applicant must be an undergraduate student of US citizen or US permanent resident.
  • High school graduates who have been accepted at an undergraduate institution but who have not yet started their undergraduate study are also eligible to participate.
  • Applicant should have at least completed data structures or computer algorithms classes or their equivalence.
  • Applicant should be proficient in a programming language.
  • Women, minorities and two-year college students are particularly encouraged to apply.

3. Commitment

Selected students must:

  • participate in the REU site projects for a nine weeks period. This commitment means that all student participants will live on the Texas State University campus and will work full time on the research projects for the entire duration of the program.
  • must attend all weekly meetings, discussions, field trips, and seminars.
  • must complete all REU program surveys.
  • must give  oral/poster presentations of the work performed.

4. Benefits

  • Stipend: $500 per week
  • Travel re-reimbursement of up to $600
  • Free on-campus housing and weekly meal allowance of $100

5. Application materials:

  1. Completed application form. Download the application form from here. Students should indicate the order of preference of the following  main research topics:

    • Data Mining in IoT (Dr. Gao)
    • Flexible IoT Management Platform (Dr. Ngu)
    • Amazon Pickup Challenge (Dr. Lu)
    • Design/Verification of IoT Systems (Dr. Podorozhny)
    • Gene Network Analysis (Dr. Zare)
    • IoT for Human Physiological Data Analysis (Dr. Metsis)
  2. An electronic copy of the most recent  transcript, including the courses registered for Spring 2016. A scanned copy of the transcript is sufficient.
  3. A one-page resume.
  4. A maximum of 500 words description of career goals including reasons for wanting to do research and participate in this REU program.
  5. One letter of recommendation from a faculty member who can assess your ability to do research or computing skills.

7. Application Notification

Notification of acceptance will be sent by email to students by April 4. To secure the position, official acceptance emails from students need to arrive at Texas State by April 15th or earlier.
