I am Adam Anderson, a rising sophomore Computer Engineering and Mathematics major at the University of Maryland. My study of computer science did not begin until I started college, but I've quickly realized my interest in theoretical computer science and artificial intelligence. While participating in REUIOT, I hope to learn the fundamentals of machine learning and how it can be combined with signal processing techniques to extract meaningful information from complex data. I will be working with Thomas Hsiao under Dr. Vangelis Metsis to apply machine learning techniques to the analysis of human physiological data. We plan on researching affective state recognition using noninvasive wearable sensors. The ability of computers to recognize human emotions can be applied to intelligent teaching assistants, electronic personal assistants, and to many other computer agents in human computer interaction.
